Eagle Point

Eagle Point has been in existence since gold was first discovered in Jacksonville in 1852. Farmers and stock raisers liked the untamed natural beauty of the Little Butte Creek area.

Eagle Point became a major trade center when Snowy Butte Mill was built in 1872. Wagons lined the dusty road for miles waiting to load. Indians from Fort Klamath walked the Old Military Trail to Eagle Point to trade leather for flour from the mill. With the arrival of the P&E railroad along the edge of town, a commercial district developed. As a result, Eagle Point was incorporated in 1912. At the time of incorporation, Eagle Point boasted two hotels, hardware store, lumberyard, billiard and pool hall, confectionery store, state bank and other businesses. Three of the original brick buildings, housing the State Bank, confectionery store and general store still stand and are in use today housing new businesses.

Eagle Point has always been a family community, one that pulls together for the betterment of it's citizens. In 1987 the citizens of Eagle Point relocated a Queen Truss Covered Bridge from Antelope Creek and placed it across Little Butte Creek. This covered bridge now serves as a safe walkway for school children to cross Little Butte Creek to and from school.

A school house built in 1925 has been converted into a museum which contains the 2nd largest collection of historic artifacts in Jackson County. Contained within the historic district is the Butte Creek Mill, a school built in 1899 which is still in use, a country church constructed in 1906, a rock house built in the 1870's, three homes built at the turn of the century and, of course, our Queen Truss Covered Bridge.

Eagle Point is on the verge of a building explosion due in part to the livability of the area and due partly to the building of the Eagle Point Golf Course. The projected growth for the City of Eagle Point is providing excellent growth and opportunities for the business community.
